Lancaster III PB180 crashed the in Baltic Sea 27/8 1944.


The aircraft belonged to RAF 7 Sqn. Bomber Command and was coded MG-G.
T/O 20:03 Oakington. OP: Kiel.


PB180 was lost over the Baltic Sea.

The body of Flt. Engr. F/Sgt Albert K. Wooliscroft was found washed ashore at Fælledskov Rev on the island of Sjælland on 15/9 and was laid to rest in Lyderslev cemetery on 18/9 1944.

Pilot F/Lt William B. Smaill DFC was found on the south coast of Sweden and was laid to rest in Malmö Eastern Municipal Cemetery.

Today Bomb aimer P/O William S. Baxter RAAF and W/Op P/O James F. Butson rest in Kiel War Cemetery while Navigator P/O David R. Fisher RAAF, Mid upper gunner F/S Norman Twell and Tail gunner F/S Marcus G. Godfray DFM have no known graves and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
