P 51B 19 42-106480 crashed at Bov Mark near Frøslev 27/8-1944.


The aircraft belonged to USAAF, 8 Air Force, 352 Fighter Group,486 Fighter Squadron.
T/O Bodney. OP: Support for Bombers to Berlin.


Due to bad weather over Berlin, the bombers were diverted to bomb Esbjerg. While over Flensburg 2.Lt Carl J. Fuenfstueck apparently suffered from disorientation and dropped out of the formation.

The aircraft crashed near Bov at 14:00 and was a total loss due to fire.

Fuenfstueck landed safely in parachute but was slightly wounded in one leg and was treated by Doctor Lorenzen, Bov.

Fuenfstueck was soon arrested by the Wehrmacht and taken to Frøslev camp in Lorenzens car. Later he was taken to Fliegerhorst Scheswig and ended up in prisoner of war camp Stalag Luft I Barth.
