JU 52 landed near Hemmet 9/4 1940.
The aircraft belonged to 11./ ? and was coded CO+GV
T/o ? Op: Weserübung.
Due to lack of fuel Unteroffizier Eppendahl had to land the Ju 52 2½ kilometres
northeast of the church of Hemmet at 12:20 hours. The landing went well and the
aircraft was undamaged.
Apart from Eppendahl there were 12 people in the aircraft, and all were
unharmed.
Eppendahl called the German consul in Ringkøbing as well as the German consulate
in Esbjerg to get aviation petrol for the JU 52.
At 16:20 hours it was decided that it would be too late to take off and
arrangements were made for the crew and passengers to stay overnight at the
“Afholdshotellet” hotel in Hemmet.
On the next day, the Ju 52 continued its
journey.
