Bf 109E-3 werknummer 710 crashed at Esbjerg airfield 10/5 1940.

The aircraft belonged to 3.(J)/ LG 2 of JG 77 and was coded Braune 1.
T/o Esbjerg. Op: Patrol along the west coast of Jylland.

Fog had covered the airfield when Staffelkapitän Hauptmann Georg Graner and Leutnant Ludwig Lenz returned from the early morning patrol.

When Graner tried to land at 05:09 hours his Bf 109 hit a radio mast next to “Solbjerggaard” farm with the right wing and crashed to the ground killing Graner.

Lenz managed to make a safe landing shortly after.

The body of Georg Graner was followed to his last resting place in his home town by Albert Striberny.
On 17/5 1940 Graner was laid to rest in Peterswaldau im Eulengebirge.
