Ju 88A-5/F serial number 746 crashed at the Faroe Islands
18/8 1941.
The aircraft belonged to 1.(F) Aufk. Gr. 120 and was coded A6+HH.
T/o Stavanger-Sola. Op: Armed recce of the Faroe Islands.
The Ju 88 hit the Lokki Mountain near the village of Norddeble due to heavy fog
in the area. The aircraft was 100% destroyed and was together with the crew
spread over a wide area.
The human remains were collected and taken to Norddeble for the Coroners
inquest. This was performed on 20/8 and afterwards were what was determined to
be at least three flyers laid to rest in a common grave at the cemetery at
Norddeble a Bordö with Vicar Axel Carlsson officiating at the graveside ceremony
After a period of time the Vicar of Ore learned that there were still human
remains to be found at the crash site, and he took upon himself to recover
these. On 16/9 1941 these remains were laid to rest in the common grave.
The flyers were: Pilot Oberleutnant Walter Budden, Navigator Leutnant Bodo
Möller, Wop Unteroffizier Herbert Rudolf Schlichting and Air Gnr. Feldwebel Adolf Kühne.
On 6/10 1967 the flyers were disinterred and were evacuated to the cemetery at
Grove where they rest today.
