Bf 109E serial number 2766 crashed on the ice of Limfjorden 15/2 1942.


The aircraft belonged to Jagdgruppe Losigheit / JG 1and was coded Weisse 4.
T/o Esbjerg. Op:Transfer from Jever via Esbjerg and Aalborg West to Oslo.


A group of Bf 109`s took off from Jever at 10:25 hours led by a Bf 110 of 6./ NJG 1 to go to Esbjerg for refuelling. Then to continue to Aalborg West.
Two staffels landed at Aalborg West the third staffel had lost orientation and six aircrafts from this staffel landed on the ice of Limfjorden near Løgstør at approximately 15:30 hours.
 
One of these piloted by Feldwebel Ernst-August Bollmann overturned during landing and ended up lying on its back. The canopy broke through the ice and Bollmann drowned before he could be helped out.
Bollmann was laid to rest in Frederikshavn cemetery 21/2 1942.

The other five pilots were unharmed.

Note: The aircraft and Bollmann is recorded in RL to have belonged to Jagdfliegerschule 1.
