The Bv 138 was on a operational flight when it suffered from engine failure. Pilot Oberfeldwebel Helmuth Feldmann made an emergency landing in the Øresund at 14:15 hours but the aircraft was a 100% loss and the whole crew were wounded.

When the accident happened 500 metres north of Flakfortet the ship “Kongedybet” with crew from “Flakfortet” set out and Marine Obergefreiter Büttner managed to save Leutnant Mruck from drowning risking his own life. They also picked up two more flyers while the remaining two flyers were rescued by a seaplane.
