Do 217E-4 serial number 5471 crashed in the North Sea 23/8 1942.


The aircraft belonged to I./ KG 2 and was coded U5+KH.
T/o Gilze Rijen. Op: Feindflug.


The aircraft crashed in the North Sea with the loss of all onboard.

Pilot Oberfeldwebel Gustav Helmacke and Engineer Unteroffizier Paul Galles have no known graves while Navigator Oberleutnant Richard Scheurer rest in Westerland.

The dead body of Wop Unteroffizier Heinz Brändel was found washed ashore on the Danish west coast on 17/10 and was laid to rest in Fovrfelt cemetery in Esbjerg on 20/10 1942.
