Day Ranger attack on Aalborg 17/5 1944.

Luftwaffe in the Aalborg area had a bad day on 17/5 as a formation of 6 Mustangs of 65 Squadron and 2 from 122 Squadron RAF crossing the Danish coast was mistaken as German aircrafts. The Mustangs split into two groups and attacked Aalborg from north and south.
Over Aalborg they found a number of training aircrafts from 10. and 13. / KG 30 and A-Staffel JG 11. As these were training aircrafts they were unarmed except that the 10./KG 30 formation carried bombs for practice and the 13./KG 30 aircrafts carried a little ammo also for practice. Also a few other aircrafts were found.
Two aircrafts from 10./KG 30 and three from 13./KG 30, one from 2./ KG 26, one from Fliegerzielgeschwader 1 and three from JG 11 fell pry to the Mustangs. One aircraft from KG 100 was forced to make a very fast landing.
The group of Mustangs lost two aircrafts.
Two Danes were killed and three wounded during the attack.
