Ju 52 crashed south of Tarm 9/4 1940.

The aircraft belonged to 4./KG.z.b.V 9 and was coded ??
T/o Neumünster. Op: Weserübung

Together with two more Ju 52`s it was heading for Stavanger in Norway with a Luftwaffe flak crew and their guns. When they reached the Ringkøbing area the weather came down and it became foggy. Apparently Pilot Unteroffizier Ernst Wandenelis and Navigator Unteroffizier Ernst Sünder lost their way and shortly before 11:00 hours the JU 52 attempted a landing 1½ kilometre east of Vium church.
The landing failed and the Ju 52 was a 100% loss killing all onboard less Flt.Engr. Unteroffizier Franz Sauerland.

Doctor Reinholdt Nielsen of Tarm was alerted and drove to the crash site. He found eight dead men spread around the wreckage and Franz Sauerland who suffered from a broken leg. Sauerland was given an injection and taken to the hospital in Tarm for treatment.

Those who died were Pilot Unteroffizier Ernst Wandenelis, Navigator Unteroffizier Ernst Sünder, W/Op Unteroffizier Erich Lohr and members of the flak crew Unteroffizier Karl Tröpfner, Gefreiter Alfons Okon, Gefreiter Wilhelm Hochgürtel, Kanonier Gustav Berndt and Kanonier Stephan Sebastian. They were all laid to rest in Egvad cemetery on 11/4 1940 with Fieldpriest Kieseritzky performing the graveside ceremony.
